Anyone who knows me knows that I am an avid Instagrammer. Consisting mostly of pictures of my dogs, my account has 200+ photos. It’s a great way for me to keep up with my family, as mostly everyone has one.
In this week’s addition of Good News Monday, see a little boy named Max find his favorite stuffed bunny through the power of the image-sharing site.
While out for a walk, filmmaker Jason Ho came across a stuffed brown bunny laying in the street. Ho, much like myself, is an Instagrammer and he snapped a picture of it for the social media platform.
A few hours later, he was tagged in a post on Instagram by an unknown user. The picture was of a heartbreakingly sweet Missing poster that was made for a little boy’s lost stuffed rabbit. (When I look at this poster, my heart melts)
“This sketch inspired another Instagram user to do a search… [and] they were able to find the photo and my username,” Ho wrote on his blog. Because he had geo-tagged the photo, he had pretty precise coordinates for the location of the bunny. After that, a different user connected him to Max’s parents.
While initially the parents had trouble locating the precious toy, Ho was tagged in another photo on Instagram several hours later.
It’s no surprise to anyone that I am pretty much obsessed with little kids. I do my best to downplay it around my boyfriend because it freaks him out. (Is it weird that my biological clock is already ticking – LOUD – at 23 years old?)
When I read this story, I let out a large “awwww!”. Not only is the kid cute as a button, I’m positively amazed at how powerful social media can be nowadays. This, of course, can be and has been abused by people, which I think is just a shame. We need to start focusing on how it can help us rather than hurt us.
Social media definitely has its place in our world now, we are completely immersed in it. I have 5 or 6 sites that I check daily and it is exhausting. However, I find myself secretly craving more. I want to help a child find their favorite stuffed toy!
